You must immediately report any changes during the parking permit’s validity period to the Department of Motor Vehicles; otherwise, your parking authorization will expire immediately.
A change or reissuance is required in the following cases:
- a change in license plate number or
- A change of residence A move to a different resident parking zone
In these cases, we will issue you a new resident parking permit.
To request the change, please visit:
- Citizens’ Office (Stadthaus)
- Local Administration Office
- Department of Motor Vehicles (Zitadelle)

We can issue your resident parking permit immediately on-site. If you apply in writing, we will send you the permit promptly at no additional cost.
Return/Surrender
You must return your old permit once you receive the new one, as the old one is still valid.
You have a resident parking permit for the state capital of Mainz.
We can also list up to two vehicle registration numbers on the resident parking permit. However, only one vehicle with the same permit may park in the resident parking area at any given time.
If you apply in person, you will receive your new ID card immediately; otherwise, it will be sent to you shortly.
