The workshop card is a tachograph card for
- authorized tachograph manufacturers,
- vehicle manufacturers,
- workshops, and
- their responsible specialists, such as installers or technicians.
As a business owner or as an authorized representative, you can apply for this card at the appropriate agency.
Your responsible specialists use the workshop card to install, inspect, and calibrate digital tachographs and to download their data.
The workshop card is PIN-protected. The responsible specialist will receive their personal PIN number by mail at their home address. Specialists may hold only one workshop card per employment relationship and may use it only at that location. The workshop card is the property of the company.
The workshop card is valid for 1 year from the date it is personalized by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). You may apply to renew your card no earlier than 1 month before it expires.
You must immediately report the theft or loss of the workshop card to the office that issued it.
You need a workshop card to install and calibrate digital tachographs.

- New application and reissue required (follow-up card)
- You may reapply for the workshop card at the earliest 1 month before expiration.
- You should reapply for the workshop card at least 2 weeks before it expires.
The workshop cards are produced by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).
Application:
- The application must be signed by the owner or management.
- You can submit the application in person or authorize another person to do so.
