In Mombach, living and working go hand in hand. The northern part of Mombach, in particular, is one of Mainz’s most important industrial and commercial hubs. Renowned companies such as Riga, Valentin, and Prefere Paraform are headquartered here and benefit from their proximity to the highway, downtown, and the industrial port on the Rhine.

However, traditional fruit and vegetable farming still plays an important role. Fields, gardens, and the “Mainzer Sand” nature reserve—which is of supra-regional significance in terms of geoecology and botany—continue to bear witness to this other, non-industrial side of Mombach, despite the extensive residential areas. The banks of the Rhine in Mainz, with its nature reserve and numerous water sports clubs, invite visitors to linger. 

The old town center, which was surrounded by a village wall during the Kurmainz era, has an almost village-like character. Here, you can still find some of the houses and farmsteads that were once typical of Mombach. Many buildings were destroyed during World War II, including the Catholic Church of St. Nicholas. Miraculously, however, its three bells survived and are now housed in the bell tower erected in 2010 next to St. Nicholas Church, which was rebuilt in 1955. From here, an idyllic path leads through the nature reserve, straight across the fields, to the Mombach Forest Cemetery.

Residents of Mombach appreciate the district's excellent infrastructure: kindergartens and schools, numerous sports facilities and tennis courts, as well as the outdoor and indoor swimming pools at Großer Sand are located in the immediate vicinity of the residential areas. In addition to retail stores in the town center and the weekly market held on Thursdays in front of the local administration office, there are also large DIY stores and supermarkets on the outskirts of the town. Mombach are characterized by their strong sense of community – thanks in no small part to the numerous carnival and sports clubs based here. Whether it's the Schissmelle Tuesday parade, the Dämmerschoppen in the shadow of the "Fraa Bohnebeitel" at the local administration office, or the Rhine Bank Festival on the third weekend in August – the people of Mombach know how to celebrate and revive old traditions!

Culture lovers will also find plenty to enjoy: Hall 45 (opens in a new tab) (formerly the Phönixhalle) hosts concerts and other events. In addition, the Bohnebeitel carnival session, broadcast annually by SWR, is known far beyond the city limits. The dialect theater "Hannebambel" and the local history museum are also worth a visit. Mombach was first mentioned in documents in 1218. However, archaeological excavations show that the area was already settled in prehistoric times and that the town was probably founded in the Frankish period. The population has grown from 400 inhabitants in the 17th century to almost 14,000 today.
