The workshop card is a tachograph card for 

• authorized tachograph manufacturers,
• vehicle manufacturers,
• repair shops, and
• their qualified personnel, such as installers and technicians.

Your authorized specialists use the workshop card to install, test, and calibrate digital tachographs and to download their data. 

It is valid for one year. If you wish to renew your workshop card, you must apply for it with the competent authority as a business owner or as an authorized representative or agent. To do so, you must submit a current certificate confirming the workshop’s accreditation or authorization to inspect tachographs. This certificate must not be more than 3 years old.

With every application to renew a workshop card, your company must provide proof that the designated specialist is still employed by you and has been trained in accordance with the Tachograph Card and Control Device Training Guidelines. The training certificate must not be older than 3 years.

The workshop card is PIN-protected. The specialist’s personal PIN number is mailed to their home address. Specialists may hold only one workshop card per employment relationship and may use it only at that location. The workshop card is the property of the company.

• Your company is
  • an officially recognized manufacturer of tachographs,
  • a vehicle repair shop authorized by the manufacturer, or
  • an authorized and recognized automotive repair shop.
• The following are eligible to apply:
  • you, as the business owner, or a
  • person authorized to represent the company or an authorized agent of the company.

There are no notes or special features.

• Validity period: 1 year
  The (renewed) workshop card is valid for one year.

• Application for Renewal of a Workshop Card 
• Documentation verifying the name, address, and registered office of the workshop, the manufacturer of the tachographs, or the vehicle manufacturer
• Proof of identity of the business owner or the person or persons authorized to represent the business under the law, articles of incorporation, or partnership agreement
• Proof of identity and information regarding the native language of the qualified technician for whom the workshop card is being requested
• Proof of training for the responsible qualified technician in accordance with the Tachograph and Control Device Training Guidelines

• Proof of the employment relationship of the responsible technician
• Proof of the workshop’s accreditation or authorization (pursuant to § 57b of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations)
