The City of Mainz’s citizen participation initiative now features a completely revamped website. Going forward, interested users will find the microsite “Shaping Mainz Together” at the familiar address www.gemeinsam-mainz-gestalten.de (opens in a new tab). A new design and new technical features—such as the filter function for the list of projects—are a real improvement. The newsletter also sports a new design and continues to grow steadily. It currently has 785 subscribers. Four times a year, interested citizens receive updates here.

Since the last issue of the newsletter, three new projects have been added to the project list:

In June 2026, a large number of project sheets on the digital project list were updated. The project sheets on the digital project list are generally updated four times a year and as needed.

The current print version (as of March 2026)PDF-File4,65 MB is available at the reception desk in the Stadthaus on Große Bleiche and can also be requested from the Coordination Office for Citizen Participation. The next print version will be published in the fall of 2026.

Before the summer break began in Rhineland-Palatinate, there was also a lot going on in the area of citizen participation.

• Mainz
  Mobility Plan (opens in a new tab) On April 21, 2026, the first Mobility Forum took place at the Leibniz Center for Archaeology (LEIZA). Nearly 200 citizens learned about the current status of the Mainz Mobility Plan and shared their own ideas and feedback on display boards. From May 26 to June 26, 2026, the youth participation phase took place. Students in grades 7 through 9 used various worksheets to document their needs, experiences, and ideas regarding mobility in Mainz. The students’ feedback is now also being incorporated into the ongoing planning for the Mainz Mobility Plan.

  Playground Participation On June 1, 2026, approximately 100 children, teens, parents, and interested members of the public voted on the redesign of the playground. Various pieces of playground equipment were available to choose from. In 2027, the playground is set to receive a new inclusive sand play area as well as an inclusive combination structure for climbing, sliding, and balancing.
  
  
• Downtown Initiatives: “Rethinking Neighborhoods of the Future”
  In April, all interested residents were able to submit their ideas and needs regarding the “City-Meile” neighborhood online. Over 200 people participated. In collaboration with Mainz University of Applied Sciences, designs for temporary measures in the neighborhood are currently being developed and selected. The projects are expected to be implemented in the spring of 2027.
